After the five week break, Team Suzuki Alstare riders Fonsi Nieto and Yukio Kagayama and Team Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner are ready to attack in Donington.
The eleventh round of this year’s Superbike World Championship takes place at the Midlands circuit in September this year, having been moved from its April date last year, when the teams faced bitterly cold conditions on raceday. Hopefully that will not be a problem this year and all three riders will enjoy themselves at a venue that saw the very first race of the Superbike World Championship back in 1988.
Last year, Yukio missed the race after a crash in practice and Fonsi Nieto, then racing for Kawasaki, finished sixth in race one and no-scored in race two. Max meanwhile took an eighth in the first race and a tenth in the second.
Fonsi So, another track for me where I have to learn how to ride on my Suzuki. My bike this year is so different to my bike last year, so I always have to start from scratch and that is not always so easy. There are not so many riders in this position, but I know I just have to get on with it and do the best I can. The season has been a bit up and down and I want to go into Donington and the final three rounds with a strong finish and that is my intention.
Yukio Last year I didn’t get to start the race because of a crash and that was a big disappointment to me and to all my British fans. So this year, I want to make it up to them by taking podiums in both races. Of course, this will not be so easy, but I know Donington from my British Superbike Championship days and so I think I have a chance of some good results. I need them!
Max My Suzuki this year is very different to my Suzuki last year but I feel positive that I can really attack Donington and get some good results. Last year was very cold, so I really hope this year will be better. Bayliss has a good lead in the championship, but I want to try and put pressure on him in all the remaining races and push him right to the end. In the meanwhile, I want to maintain second place in the series and make sure that the others don’t catch me up.
