About Aces

The club was formed in 1928 and are justifiably proud that they are the only club to have raced non-stop ever since.

The club even continued throughout the Second World War with riders who were on leave from the services, or on war work at home, turning up to race at the now defunct Hyde Road stadium on a Saturday night.

Bikes were powered by a wood alcohol fuel which was not needed for the war effort. Many fans cycled long distances to get there.

The club moved to their current home at Kirkmanshulme Lane Stadium, in Gorton, close to the Manchester City Centre, in 1988.

They have had five World champions in their history with Liverpool-born Peter Craven and Peter Collins being home produced heroes. The others are New Zealander Ivan Mauger, Swede Ove Fundin and Australian Jason Crump. He won the title last year but has been transferred to Poole during the winter.

Their nickname of the Aces is one of the most famous in the sport and their club colours of red, white and black, with the distinctive Ace of Clubs logo, are equally well known.
